Oregon Grappling Arts
Oregon Grappling Arts offers gi and no gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) instruction and training for kids ages 3+ and adults in Portland, OR. Whether you are looking for a place for your kids or your whole family to start a martial arts practice, improve physical fitness and mental wellness, build self-confidence, or join a community, we’d love to train with you at OGA. Our academy is the only academy in the Portland area where every class on the schedule is taught by a black belt with an extensive competition background, an upper-belt IBJJF No Gi World Championship title, and years of experience working with youth students. We don’t relegate the teaching of youth classes to lower belts because we love developing young jiu jitsu students and being part of their martial arts journey!
Beginning jiu jitsu at an early age has many physical, mental, and social benefits. Our highly structured group classes provide kids with a fun and challenging way to improve their physical fitness. By practicing jiu jitsu techniques and participating in live sparring, kids will develop balance, coordination, strength, and endurance. The physically demanding nature of jiu jitsu also helps kids cultivate patience and mental fortitude by teaching them to persevere through tough situations. Because becoming a skilled BJJ practitioner takes years of dedicated training, kids will develop a sense of discipline and an understanding of the importance of hard work, the ability to maintain focus and be mindful in order to get the most out of every class, and the ability to set and accomplish goals. One of the most valuable aspects of a martial arts practice for youth students is the development of their social skills and self-confidence. At OGA, kids make new friends on the mats and learn to work together and to treat each other with kindness and respect, all while becoming a valued member of a team and learning real-world self-defense skills that will boost your child’s self-confidence.
