In the song “Two Step,” Dave Matthews says, “life is short but sweet for certain.” Artist and art educator Robert Geroux agrees that life is indeed short–and filled with joy, sorrow, pain, laughter, anger, love, disappointment, heartache, fear, courage, pleasure, loss, and regret; yet, still, “sweet for certain.”
“As an artist and arts educator, I have been gifted with eighty years on this beautiful Mother Earth of ours,” Geroux said. “I have experienced ALL of the events listed here in my personal life. As an artist, however, only recently have I been fully aware of my intentional approach to the creative process, hoping to reflect, study, and then make works that try to respond to–and share–one or more of these experiences.”
On Thursday, November 19, from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m., Geroux will lead a conversation and discussion exploring the catharsis that results from the creative process. Participants will be able to view some of his work and the work of other artists in order to examine these thoughts, events, and emotions.
Robert Geroux has been an artist since childhood and an arts educator, mentor and advocate, for more than 40 years. He holds degrees from Mohawk Valley Community College, SUNY New Paltz, and RIT. Geroux’s teaching has been his most cherished experience and includes tenures at K-12 city schools; private child care facilities; suburban districts; community-centered workshops, galleries, and venues; as well as three different colleges and universities. He has also served as a gallery director and department leader in several of these institutions. Geroux continues to teach, sculpt and paint . . . but more importantly celebrate the arts in and around his life with friends, loved ones, and colleagues on a daily basis.
This FREE presentation is the first discussion in a new lecture series, “Pages & Palettes,” hosted by Main Street Arts in the gallery’s 2,000-volume Art Resource Library. The event is free, but registration is requested. Sign up through Eventbrite at https://Creativity_and_Catharsis.eventbrite.com.
Attendees will also be able to see the gallery’s current exhibition, Small Works, which features the work of over 200 artists from across the United States. Each piece is 12 inches or smaller, and most are available for purchase, with sales directly benefitting the artists.
Main Street Arts (located at 20 West Main Street, Clifton Springs, New York) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the arts, encouraging the creation of art, and engaging the community through art. Admission to the gallery is always free. The public is welcome to enjoy four gallery spaces and an Art Resource Library.
