Portland Lucia Fest | New Sweden Cultural Heritage Society

Lucia Fest, also known as St. Lucia's Day, is a traditional Swedish festival celebrated on December 13th. It honors the Christian martyr Saint Lucy and symbolizes the return of light during the winter solstice. The festival features processions led by a "Lucia" (usually a young woman) dressed in white and crowned with candles, singing traditional songs. The procession is often accompanied by other girls and boys dressed in white, carrying candles and singing.
